“Come to me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you.
Take my yoke upon your shoulders and learn from me,
for I am gentle and humble of heart.
Your souls will find rest, for my yoke is easy and my burden light.”

Matthew 11 vs. 28-30

I enjoyed a conversation with a person who had spent a weekend hiking. The weather was warm, some rain, there were hills, valleys, mud, streams – all things one encounters on a hike. She shared the need to just stop, rest, and lay down the backpack.

I took the sharing to my prayer! What is in the backpack of my life’s journey? What needs to be laid down? What needs to be savored? What needs to be kept?

What is in your backpack... unforgiveness, guilt, too many things, over-spending, over-commitments?... others?

What needs savored, saved... love, friends, vocational commitment, professional commitment, exercise, solitude, prayer, leisure?

May the great feast of the Sacred Heart (June 27th) provide you with a resting place and a reordering of your journey's backpack!
